“The Harpist” is our community flagship short film project. On this production our focus is on significant on-the-job education by mixing industry professionals, recent film graduates, and with first time filmmakers. Our director, writer, and producer were all taking on their role for the first time and have surpassed expectations to create a beautiful film.
The Harpist details an evening in the life of young and infamous Emmie Lucas, a world renowned harpist. From the outside, she seems to glitter like gold: wealth, fame, beauty, extraordinary talent and sold out concerts.
Though no one knows how jaded and empty her heart feels on the inside. After experiencing the sting of unrequited love, she wanders into a late night diner alone. There she finds unexpected connection with a single mom and child, and gets shaken out of her own self-pity – she sees they live opposite as she does: paycheck-to-paycheck, unknown to most of the world… and, on top of that, the child fights a potentially terminal illness.
The story of ‘The Harpist’ pushes past the surface-level glamour of life, aiming toward the heart of life-changing human connection.
